China?s August coal imports up 26.62 pct on-year

China, the world?s largest coal consumer and producers, imported 16.59 million tonnes of coal in August, a 26.6 percent increase from the same month a year ago, on higher demand from utilities, the country?s custom data show.

China imported 6.45 million tonnes of coal from Indonesia or nearly 39 percent of the country?s total imports for August, data from China Customs showed as reported by CoalWorld.net.

The country bought 2.596 million tonnes of coal from Australia, which is 15.65 percent of its August coal imports,

China imported 104.38 million tonnes of coal in January to August period this year, down 1.42 percent from the same period last year due to higher domestic production.(*)
