China?s Jinchun plans nickel smelter in N. Maluku

China?s Jinchun Group plans to develop a nickel smelter in North Maluku Province to capitalize on local nickel reserves, Antaranews.com reported on Monday.

The news portal quoted President Director of the company, Yao Wei Xin, as saying that the smelter will be located on Obi Island, Halmahera Selatan Regency.

He said that total investment is estimated at around Rp 9 trillion, but did not provide further details about the project.

Jinchun?s planned investment in the smelter project follows a recent visit by North Maluku Governor Abdul Gani Kasuba to China?s Guangzhou Province so seek cooperation in smelter development and investment in fisheries and education sectors. (*)
