China's Ning Xia eyes Rp2t smelter in Bantaeng

China's Ning Xia Hengshun Smelter Group Co. Ltd plans to build a nickel smelter in Bantaeng, South Sulawesi with a total investment of Rp 2 trillion.

The plan was revealed during Ning Xia President Director Yang Jiang's visit to the office of Bantaeng Regent HM Nurdin Abdullah, according to Bantaeng Regency administration website released on Monday.

During the visit, the company requested the regional government's support over the plan, including expediting the land acquisition process for the project which is estimated to cover about 50 hectares.

Under the plan, the company is targeting to start the construction in 2014 with production expected to commence by 2015. Initial production is targeted to reach 1.5 tons a year.

The website did not mention where the upcoming smelter would get the supply.
