A delegation from China's Shandong province is visiting Indonesia this week, seeking to buy liquefied natural gas from the Tangguh field, an Indonesian official was quoted by Dow Jones as saying on Friday.
The delegation, headed by Shandong Province Deputy Governor Sun Shaoupu, met with Indonesia's Mines and Energy Minister Purnomo Yusgiantoro Friday, said Bambang Dwiyanto, an official with the ministry.
He added that Indonesia will send a delegation to Shandong in April to follow up on the gas deal. He didn't specify the volume of LNG Shandong it is seeking.
Indonesia, one of the world's largest LNG producers, needs customers to take up an increase in supply coming from a swathe of new projects, including a huge development of the Tangguh LNG plant by BP PLC (BP) in West Papua province.
China's Fujian province has agreed to buy 2.6 million tons of LNG a year from Tangguh starting in 2007. (*)
