Chinese coal miner to invest in East Kalimantan coal mining

Chinese coal miner Jinan Lifu Coal Mine Co. plans to open a coal mining operation in East Kutai regency, East Kalimantan, to supply growing coal needs in China, according to the local Kaltim Post daily.

The paper quoted visiting company deputy general manager Hao Munchang as saying that the firm was seeking up to 100,000 hectare of coal mining site in the regency.

Hao and three of his colleagues met with East Kutai regency on Wednesday.

He said that coal from East Kutai has good quality with calorie content of between 6,000-8,000.

He said that Jinan Lifu Coal Mine Co. has a coal mining operation in China with annual production capacity of 5.6 million tons, but this was not enough to cover growing demand.

He declined to disclose the amount of the company?s investment, saying that it was still making calculations.(*)
