Chinese consortium wins C. Kalimantan coal-fired power plant tender

A consortium of Chinese companies won the tender to build a 2 x 60 MW Pulang Pisau coal fired power plant in Central Kalimantan, Republika reported on Monday.

The consortium consists of China National Heavy Machinery, Group Shandong Electric Power Constructions and local firm PT Mega Power Mandiri Indonesia.

?We expect to the project to embark on construction phase in February,? head of the province's oil, electricity and energy office Thomas Sembiring said on Sunday.

The power plant costing around US$120 million is expected come on stream not later than 2009, he said.

In the first stage, the power plant would only operate at 40 percent of its generating capacity and the power would be used to supply electricity in Central Kalimantan. The remaining supply would come into South Kalimantan ? Central Kalimantan transmission system,? he said. (*)
