Chinese firm to build coal-fired power plants in N. Sulawesi

China's Guanxi Aojin Energy Investment plans to build a combined 900MW coal-fired power plants in Bitung, North Sulawesi Province, to meet growing demand both from households and industries in the area.

The local Fajar daily quoted visiting CEO of Guanxi Li Tianming as saying that his company would build the plants in three stages. He was speaking to reporters following a meeting Friday with Minister of Industry Saleh Husin in provincial capital of Manado.

He said that output from the first 300 MW plants will be dedicated for households in Bitung, while the next stages will be for industries in the region.

He said that ground-breaking of the project will be held in September, in the hope that it could be completed in two-and a half-year.(*)
