Chinese firms plans nuclear power plant in E. Kalimantan

Inuki President Director Yudi Utomo was quoted as saying by CNN Indonesia Tuesday that ground-breaking of the project is targeted to be held in 2019.
He added that the project will be implemented in several stages, with the first stage targeting a capacity of 50 MW. Investment requirement per is estimated at between US$1.5 million and $2.5 million per MW.
Separately, East Kalimantan Governor Awang Faroek Ishak was quoted as saying by Antara news agency that the planned investment by CGNPC forms part of the provincial administration?s ambition to develop nuclear power plants in the province as a source of cheaper and clean energy.
He said that the administration has conducted feasibility study in cooperation with the National Nuclear Energy (Batan) to develop nuclear power plants in the province. He said that there are two potential locations for the projects including Talisayan in Berau Regency, and Sangatta in East Kutai Regency.
Awang hoped the central government would approve the province?s nuclear power plant ambition.
He added that while the provincial administration was seeking for a number of investors particularly from France and UK, so far only CGNPC has expressed its readiness to realize the project. ?If the central government provides its approval, the project can actually starts in 2016,? he said.
Meanwhile, Director General of New and Renewable Energy Rida Mulyana said that the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources has drafted a plan to develop a combined 5,000 MW of nuclear power plants by 2025. (*)
