Industry Minister MS Hidayat said on Thursday that Chinese state-owned firms plan to construct about ten coal-fired power plants to generate electricity for about 10 smelters they planned to build in Sulawesi and Kalimantan.
Hidayat made the statement following a meeting arranged by the Chinese Embassy in Jakarta, discussing the planned development of Indonesia-China economic zone in eastern Indonesia.
Hidayat said that the Chinese government has requested for the agreement of the planned Indonesia-China economic zone to be signed by the two governments in October on the sidelines of the upcoming APEC meeting in Bali.
The minister said that he doesn?t see any problem with the request, adding that he would consult with other cabinet members including Coordinating Minister for the Economy Hatta Raja and Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Jero Wacik.
