Chinese investor eyes N. Kalimantan hydro power projects

An investor from China is planning to develop two large hydro power plants next year in Nunukan Regency, North Kalimantan, Secretary of the mining and energy office at the regency administration, Ambros Tukan in a statement obtained Monday.
He said that a hydro power plant with a capacity of 4,000-5,000 will be built in Sembakung District, and another with a larger capacity of 6,000 MW will be developed in Lumbis District.
?We will obtain investment in electricity particularly hydro from a Chinese investor,? he said, but did not disclose the name of the investor, and other details about the planned projects.
Ambros said that once completed, electricity from the two power plants will be supplied to consumers in four provinces including Nunukan, Malinau, Tanah Tidung, and Bulungan.
