A company from China's city of Shandong has expressed interest to build a coal-fired power plant in Murung Raya (Mura) regency in Central Kalimantan, local newspaper Banjarmasin Post reported on Wednesday.

The regent of the Mura regency, Willy M. Yoseph, said on Tuesday that the memorandum of understanding for the construction of the power plant had been signed in Jakarta recently.

?The Chinese investor is very serious about their plan to build the power plant. They will soon carry out a feasibility study,? he said, adding that the power project will take advantage of the abundant coal reserves in the regency.

A number of companies have received permits to develop coalmines in the regency. Most of the mining projects are still in the exploration stage. (*)
