Investors from China and Malaysia are interested in building a 2x100 megawatt gas-fired power plant in Medan’s Industrial Zone (KIM), North Sumatra, the Bisnis Indonesia daily newspaper reported in its Thursday edition.
President director of PT KIM I Soepomo said the the power plant will cost around Rp 2 trillion.
“The license is being processed at the Governor’s office. Hopefully, the license will be issued soon for the construction of the plant," Soepomo said during a hearing with the Regional Assembly’s Commission C in Medan on Wednesday.
At present the state electricity firm PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN) is unable to cope with the rising power demand in North Sumatra, especially from the industries. That’s why, it is urgent to build new power plants in the province, Soepomo said.(*)
