Chubu Electric to advise JICA on electricity supply on Sumatra

Chubu Electric Power Co. has concluded a consulting contract with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) on the aid agency's project to help with stable electricity supply on Indonesia's Sumatra Island, the company was quoted as saying by Kyodo News Wednesday.

Chubu Electric said it has begun studying the power resources situation on the island, where the company is to support a JICA project to help a local government secure stable electricity supply by such means as improving the island's power transmission system, according to the company.

The island has been suffering from a severe shortage in supply of electricity, it said.

Under the contract, which is effective through July 2005, Chubu Electric will also train the local government staff in charge of the power supply, the company said.(*)
