The construction of a new coal terminal built by state-owned port operator PT Pelabuhan Indonesia (Pelindo) III near the Tanjung Intan port in Cilacap, Central Java with total investment of about Rp 10 billion (1US=9,305) has been completed and ready for operation, Antara news agency reported

General Manager of Pelindo III Didiek Harijanto said Thursday that the company would begin the operation of the coal terminal as soon as it received a green light from the Directorate General of Sea Transportation at the Ministry of Transportation.

"We hope the Directorate General of Sea Transportation will soon issue the license so that the new terminal can be operated," he said, adding that the new terminal, which occupies a two-hectare area located near the Tanjung Intan port has the capacity to serve a barge with a capacity of 7,000 tons.

At present, the Tanjung Intan port receives between 15 and 20 barges, with a capacity of between 7,000 and 13,000 tons a month.

The coal to be shipped through the terminal, which is built by Pelindo III in cooperation with local firm PT Sumber Segara Primadaya, will be used to meet the coal needs of the 2x300 Megawatt Cilacap coal-fired power plant. (*)
