State-owned electricity company PT PLN has scheduled the commissioning of its Cilacap combined cycle power plant in Central Java to start in December this year

?The first unit of the Cilacap power plant will start supplying electricity to the Java-Bali grid in January next year and the second unit is expected in March or April,? PLN president director Eddie Widiono told reporters on Thursday.

The power plant is one of three power plants now under construction in Java. The other two power plants, the Cilegon and Tanjung Jati B power plants, are scheduled for commissioning in February and August next year, respectively, according to Eddy.

The three, which will have a combined capacity of 2,660 megawatts (MW), will enable PLN to reduce its fuel oil consumption by 1.2 million kiloliters per year.

Currently, around 18,402 MW of power electricity are supplied to the Java-Bali grid from a number of power plants. (godang/dino)
