The coal-fired power plant in Cilacap, Central Java may be forced to completely stop operation today due to the worsening coal stock condition.

The plant?s Technical Manager Sutikno said in Cilacap on Monday that one of the plant?s two units which has a capacity of 300 megawatt each, had stopped operation for almost one week due to the coal shortage problem.

The second unit had been unable to operate at full capacity and it might be put out of operation today as the existing coal stock would be only enough for one day, he said.

?The coal stock is depleting. I think the existing stock is only enough for one-day operation. If there is no coal shipment tomorrow (today), I am afraid, the plant will be completelly put out of operation,? he said.

The plant which needs at about 2,500 tons of coal a day to feed each of its two turbines has been forced to operate only one of its turbines due the delay in the coal shipment from the company?s suppliers in Kalimantan. (*)
