Cilacap power plant stops operation due to shortage of coal

PT Adaro Indonesia has halted its coal supply to the 2 x 300 MW Cilacap power plant in Central Java as the plant?s operator PT Sumber Segara Primadaya (S2P) has failed to pay its debt arrears to the coal company.

State-owned electricity company PT Perusahaan Lisrik Negara's (PLN) president director Fahmi Mochtar said in Jakarta that the halt in the coal supply from Adaro had caused the Cilacap power plant to completely stop its operation on Tuesday.

Speaking to reporters in Jakarta on Tuesday, Fahmi said that he had asked the executives of Adaro and S2P to settle the debt problem amicably.

?I would facilitate a meeting for the two parties to negotiate the unpaid debts. Hopefully, the meeting will produce positive results so that the coal supply could be resumed,? he said.

The Cilacap power plant had operated only one of its two turbines for nearly a week due to the decline in its coal stocks. The halt in the coal supply from Adaro, the main coal provider, had forced the power plant to completely stop its operation on Tuesday. (godang)
