Cilegon power plant suffers gas shortage

The newly operated Cilegon combined cycle power plant is expected to only generate power supply of about 270 MW in December 2006, or about 30 percent of its installed capacity of 740 MW, due to lack of gas supply, Detik.com reported Saturday.
?In November the power plant should produce up to 370 MW but it can?t be realized due to shortage of gas supply,? Muljo Adji, PLN?s spokesman, said in Jakarta Saturday.
When the power plant comes into full operation, it will need 85 million british thermal unit (MMBTU) of gas but the fact is the power plant will receive about 43 MMBTU in December 2006.
Muljo said that he hoped that the gas supply could be gradually increased. "If the new power plant can receive enough gas supply, it can be operated at its full capacity of 740 MW early next year," he added.
The power plant is supplied with gas from the Pabelokan field offshore Banten owned by Chinese firm CNOOC. (*)
