The Cilegon combined cycle power plant in Banten is expected to start a full operation in August with the fresh commitment from gas producer CNOOC to increase the gas supply in the month, Kontan reported Tuesday.

Muljo Adji, PLN's general manager for power distribution control in Java and Bali, said in Jakarta on Monday that the Cilegon power plant had not been able to operate at full capacity since it started operation last year due to the lack of gas supply.

CNOOC earlier agreed to provide gas supply of between 85 and 125 million cubic feet per day but due to a problem in its gas production, the company is only able to supply 40 million cubic feet per day.

Adji said that the Cilegon power plant has so far been able only to produce 50 megawatts (MW) far lower than its full capacity of 740 MW. The power plant was initially scheduled to produce 240 MW in November lasta year, 420 MW in February this year and at a full capacity of 740 MW in April this year. (*)
