Cilegon power plant to begin operation in December

The Cilegon coal fired power plant, which is now under construction in Cilegon, Banten, is scheduled to begin its operation in December, this year, providing an additional power supply of about 740 MW in the Java and Bali power transmission grid, Bisnis Indonesia reported on Monday.

?The construction of the new power plant has been 100 percent completed and it is expected to begin its commercial operation in December, this year,? said Joko Mulyono, the operational director of PT Wijaya Karya, one of the contractors for the construction of the power plant.

The construction of the 740 MW power plant, which would operate two gas turbines, each with a capacity of 250 MW, began in March 2004. The project is expected to be completed this month.

Joko said that PT Wijaya Karya handled the civil works of the new power plant, while electrical and mechanical works were conducted by Truba Jurong Engineering, with Mitsubshi Corporation operating as the main contractor. (*)
