Cirebon Electric Power ready to expand capacity

Independent power producer (IPP) PT Cirebon Electric Power (CEP) said it is ready to expand the capacity of its coal-fired power plant in Kanci, Cirebon, West Java, anytime state owned electricity firm PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN) ask it to do so.
"If PLN asked us to expand our capacity, we are definitely ready to do it," Heru Dewanto, Director of CEP, told Petromindo.com.
Heru said that its power plant, PLTU Cirebon has a total capacity of 660 MW.
"We are ready to expand it up to 1,000 MW," he said.
Should PLN give a green light, the firm would start study in 2017 and take three years to develop the expansion project.
Heru added that in order to expand the capacity up to 1,000 MW, a total investment of about US$2 billion is needed. At present, the firm needs 2.8 million tons of coal per annum to feed the power plant. Once the capacity has been increased to 1,000 MW, the coal need will rise to about 4 million tons annually.
CEP is a consortium comprising of Marubeni Corporation, Korea Midland Power Co., Samtan Co. Ltd, and PT Tripatra.
