The Cirebon administration, in West Java, will issue a recommendation to the Ministry of Transportation to shut down the coal loading and unloading activities at the local Cirebon port due to complaint from the public of dust pollution, Bisnis Indonesia reported on Friday.
This was said by Cirebon Mayor Nasrudin Azis following recommendation from the local legislative council (DPRD).
Coals from the Cirebon port are distributed to industries in West Java and Central Java. Last year, coal unloading and loading volume at the Cirebon Port reached 3.08 million tons out of total unloading and loading volume of 4.37 million tons.
Secretary of the West Java chapter of the Indonesian Entrepreneurs Association (Apindo) Martin B. Chandra protested the plan, saying it would harm the industries in the province. (*)
