IDX-listed PT Cita Mineral Tbk said that its coal-fired power plants, with combined capacity of 80 MW to support its alumina smelter in Ketapang, West Kalimantan, absorbs about 400,000 tons per year of coal.

Company Corporate Secretary Yusak Pardede said last week that the smelter obtains coal with CV of 3,800 kcal/kg through short-term contracts from local suppliers in Sumatra, South Kalimantan and East Kalimantan.

The company plans to double capacity of the power plants to 160 MW in the future in line with the planned expansion of the alumina smelter.

A 1 million-ton per annum capacity smelter grade alumina plant in Ketapang, developed by PT Well Harvest Winning Alumina Refinery, a joint venture between the company?s subsidiary PT Harita Prima Abadi (25%) and China?s Hongqiao Group, started commercial operation in June.

Well Harvest plans to develop a total of 4 million tons per year capacity alumina smelter in Ketapang. The second smelter will have a capacity of 1 million tons per year.
