IDX-listed mining firm PT Cita Mineral Tbk said it is preparing to apply for permit to export part of its bauxite output following new regulation introduced by the government in January allowing for the export of washed bauxite.
?It (request for export permit) is still being processed. There are plenty of conditions that must be met,? said Cita Corporate Secretary Yusak Pardede to Petromindo.com on Tuesday.
He previously said that the company was hoping to be able to submit the request for export permit to the government in this quarter. He said that based on the capacity of its alumina smelter in West Kalimantan, Cita should be able to obtain bauxite export quota of up to six million tons.
The government introduced a new regulation in January of this year among others allowing miners to resume export of washed bauxite on the condition that the miners have put in place commitment to develop domestic smelter.
Cita holds a 25 percent stake in PT Well Harvest Winning (WHW), which last year started operation of a one million-ton per annum capacity alumina smelter in Ketapang, West Kalimantan. WHW is 75 percent owned by China?s Hongqiao Group.
WHW plans to develop a total of 4 million tons per year capacity alumina smelter in Ketapang.
