Jakarta's environmental impact management agency (Bapedalda) called on China National oil Offshore Corporation (CNOOC) and BP West Java to be "cooperative" in the investigation into the oil spills that have polluted waters surrounding the Seribu islands north of Jakarta, Koran Tempo reported on Monday.
Agency head Kosasih Wirahadikusumah said the agency was still awaiting the result of the government's investigation into the matter.
"But for sure, we have strongly appealed to both companies not to try to hide or to remove evidences," he said.
Oil and gas upstream authority BP Migas are cooperating with related parties including the Seribu Islands authority and the agencies in charge of marine park and environment to investigate the possible sources of the oil spill. (*)
