Coal consumption for electricity to reach 101.4m tons in 2017

State electricity company PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN) estimated that the country will need 101.4 million tons of coal for national power plants in 2017.
"The estimated consumption is based on the prediction of coal consumption by PLN and its subsidiaries at 66.7 million tons and independent power producers at 34.7 million tons," said the company coal division head Helmi Najamuddin, adding that the estimation is stated within the company's Electrical Power Supply Business Plan for 2011-2020 period.
"To anticipate the increasing domestic coal consumption, it is important to maintain the Domestic Market Obligation and apply export quota," he said.
