Coal exports through Lampung rise by over 100 percent

The volume of coal exports shipped through the coal terminal in Tarahan, Bandar Lampung increased by 100.2 percent during the period between January to May to 616,258 tons from 304,955 tons in the same period last year.

Soegiarto, the head of the office of the ministry of industry and trade in Lampung province, said in Bandar Lampung on Thursday that the foreign exchange receipts from the coal exports during the five-month period reached a total of US$11.74 million, an increase of 56.27 percent from US$7.4 million in the same period last year.

The coal, which were exported to Taiwan, Japan, Spain and Thailand, were produced by the state owned coal mining company PT Bukit Asam from its coal mine in Tanjung Enim, South Sumatera. The commodity was transported by trains before being shipped from the Tarahan terminal.

The exports were only part of the coal shipped through the terminal. The larger part of which were shipped to supply the Suralaya power plant in Merak, West Java. (*)
