Coal mine explosion victim dies

Siswoyo, 46, one of the five victims of last month?s coal mine explosion in Sawahlunto, West Sumatra, died late on Saturday after having been treated at the M. Djamil Hospital in the provincial capital of Padang for severe burns, Antara reported Monday.

Hospital spokesman Gustafiano was quoted as saying that two other victims, who also suffered from severe burns, were still being treated at the hospital. He said that their conditions are improving.

The explosion occurred late on June 27 at one of the coal mine pits belonging to mining firm PT Nusa Alam Lestari, report said previously. Antara said that the explosion was still under police investigation.

The explosion is the third in Talawi district, Sawahlunto, in the last seven years. The biggest explosion at the site occurred in June 2009, claiming 33 lives. (*)
