Coal mining companies closed temporarily: Report

The Sarolangun regency administration in Jambi has suspended the operations of 10 coal mining companies in line with a circular issued by Regent Cek Endra, The Jakarta Post reported Saturday.

The companies are PT Jambi Prima Coal, PT Minimex Indonesia, PT Citra Tobindo Sukses Perkasa, PT Tamorana Mas Internasional, PT Hutamas Koado, PT Sarolangun Bara Prima, PT Dinar Kalimantan Coal, PT Ganesha Minerals Java, PT Sarolangun Prima Coal and PT Konko Padma Manggala.

The local administration suspended the companies? operations as they had not met administrative, technical and environmental requirements, the paper said.

They also have yet to meet requirements on reclamation and post-mining contracts, install boundary markers and obtain authorization from the Sarolangun Energy and Mineral Resources Office (ESDM) as well as file reports on mining site environmental management and reclamation, monthly sales and production, trimonthly production activities, special coal road program and stockpile utilization at the mining sites, where the local ESDM office is required to carry out assessments.

Sarolangun Transportation Office head Endang Abdul Naser was quoted by the paper as saying that based on the circular, the 10 companies would remain closed until they met the requirements.?The circular is effective as of July 21 until all of them meet the requirements. If they don?t, they will be penalized,? Endang said on Friday. (*)
