Coal mining firms violate labor ruling

Some coal mining companies operating in the Kotabaru Regency, South Kalimantan, had not reported the number of their workers and other related data to the local office of the ministry of labor affairs as required, the local Banjarmasin Post daily reported Wednesday.

The paper quoted head of the local office of the ministry of labor offie Sugian Noor as saying that based on the Law No. 4/1981, coal mining firms must file the labor report to the office within 40 days before operation.

Sugian said that only certain coal mining firms including PT Arutmin, PT BCS, and PT ITP which had meet the requirement, while many others have not.

He warned that his office would launch an investigation and would give sanction to those which have violated the labor ruling. He did not provide details.

Sugian said that coal mining companies are also required to report any employment opportunity to the ministry of labor affairs.(*)
