Coal output down in January

Coal production in Indonesia, the world?s largest exporter of thermal coal, in January of this year declined by 7.7 percent to 36 million tons compared to 39 million tons in the same period of last year.

Kontan quoted Bambang Tjahjono, Coal Chief at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, as saying Friday that of the total output, about 30 million tons were exported, and 6 million tons sold in the domestic market.

The government has set full-year production of 425 million tons.

The ministry has set the coal reference price (HBA) for the month of February 2015 at US$62.92 per ton, down 1.44 percent from $63.84 per ton in January. (*)
