Coal production up 56 percent during January February this year

Indonesia?s coal production during January and February this year reached a total of 59.43 million tons, an increase of about 56 percent from 38.11 million tons during the same two-month period in 2009, the Indonesian Coal Mining Association (APBI) announced on Wednesday.

APBI Chairman Bob Kamandanu said that coal exports in January reached 25.08 million tons as compared to 13.62 million tons in the same period of last year. In February, the coal exports reached 23.25 million tons as compared to about 15 million tons in the year-ago period.

According to him, coal domestic sales reached 5.34 million tons in January as compared to 4.89 million tons in the year-ago period. In February, the domestic sales were 5.78 million tons as compared to 4.65 million tons in February last year.

He pointed out that that the coal production in January and February amounted to 30.42 million tons and 29.02 million tons respectively, as compared to 18.50 million tons and 19.60 million tons, respectively in the same period last year.

Last year the country's total production of coal reached 283.330.644 ton, 230.231.864 tons of which were exported, while total domestic sales amounted to 53.098.780 tons. (godang/bernard)
