Coal supply to Tarahan coal terminal halted due to train accident

A cargo train carrying coal produced by state-owned coal mining company PT Batu Bara Bukit Asam (PTBA) slip off the rail tracks at Tanjung Enim, South Sumatra on Sunday due to a landslide, halting the coal supply from the company's mining site in Tanjung Enim to its coal terminal in Tarahan, Lampung, Kompas and Sriwijaya Post reported on Monday.

The senior official of the state owned railway operator PT Kereta Api Indonesia in said that the train which carried 35 tons of coal and 60 drums of diesel oil slip near Jembatan Enim II, located between Tanjung Enim and the Kertapati railway terminal in Palembang due to a landslide.

The accident did not affect the traffic of passenger trains but it totally disrupted the transportation of coal from PT BA's mining site in Tanjung Enim to the Tarahan coal terminal in Lampung. The train official said that the cargo train was being towed into the track and he hoped that the coal transportation could be resumed tonight or tomorrow at the latest.

PTBA ships its coal to local and overseas buyers through the Tarahan coal terminal. (*)
