Coal transportation tender at Tanjung Jati B questioned

A local company which participated in the coal transportation tender carried out by Tanjung Jati B power plant in East Java has reported the auction committee to the anti-corruption commission for allegedly involved in corruption, Bisnis Indonesia reported on Tuesday.

Ibnu Soemantoro, a senior executive of a national shipping company, accused that the auction had been engineered to enable a specific bidder to win the Rp 3.78 trillion coal transportation contract.

"It was very strange. The bidders were only given three days to submit their applications to join the pre-qualification," he was quoted as saying.

When confirmed, the director of power generating of PLN, Herman Ibrahim, denied that the corruption charge.

"The auction has been carried out under the existing procedure," he said. "If participants in the tender were not satisfied, please submit their complaint to Tanjung Jati-B," he said. (*)
