Coal transportation to Tarahan port to return to normal next week

State coalminer PT Tambang Batubara Bukit Asam (PTBA) said Thursday transportation of coal from its Tanjung Enim mining site in South Sumatra to Lampung?s Tarahan port would likely return to normal next Tuesday.

?We expect that coal transportation to Tarahan will run normally on January 20,? PTBA?s production director Soekrisno told Petromindo.Com.

Soekrisno said that state railway operator PT Kereta Api Indonesia (PTKAI) had resumed transportation of PTBA?s coal from Tanjung Enim to Tarahan early this month, but the volumes carried were still below normal levels.

PTKAI normally transported 25,000 tons per day of coal from Tanjung Enim to Tarahan.

The railway route was disrupted since Dec. 18, 2003 when seven railway coaches derailed in a South Sumatra village.

The coal carried to Tarahan was meant for PT Indonesia Power?s Suralaya power plant in Banten province. (godang)
