Following the decision to stop coal trucks from using public road in South Sumatra starting January 1st 2013, governor Alex Noerdin stated as quoted by Koran Tempo that coal trucks will be advised to take a specific alternative road.

Alex said coal trucks will be directed to take a 248km designated route connecting coal mines in Muara Enim, Lahat, down to Tanjung Lago Port at Banyuasin. Parts of the road are already made use by private mining companies.

Road developer and operator PT Servo Meda Sejahtera stated that the company invested up to Rp1 trillion of fund for the construction, claiming that the time and money spent using the road for each truck, compared to public road utilisation, could account for 75 percent less. The company operates 116km of the road, connecting Lahat regency to Muara Lematang, Muara Enim, through subsidiary PT Servo Lintas Raya.(*)
