Companies line up for $2.5b Java IPP project

A number of power developers have expressed interest to develop 2,000-MW coal fired power project in Pemalang, Central Java that would be built under Independent Power Producer (IPP) scheme, an official from state electricity firm PLN said on Thursday.

Planning and Strategy Director Bambang Pratomo told reporters that amongs companies that have expressed interest included Marubeni Corp., Siemens AG, Alstom, YTL Corp., AREVA, Huadian Power International and Datang International Power Generation Co.

Bambang said PLN would tender the electricity price on February this year. Operations of the power plant is expected late 2013 or early 2014,he said.

Bambang estimated the project will cost around US$2.5 billion.

Bambang said the Pemalang power project would receive guarantee from the Indonesian government.

PLN has appointed the International Finance Corporation (IFC), a member of the World Bank Group, as its lead transaction advisor for the competitive tendering of the Pemalang IPP project.(bernard/godang)
