Competition among companies which are taking part in bidding to get ExxonMobil assets in Aceh is intensifying. This was evident by the interested parties' maneuvers to form consortia.

PT Medco Internasional Energy Tbk, a listed oil and gas company, has teamed up with fertilizer firm PT Pusri Tbk, which is based in South Sumatera. Recently, PT Samudera Energi and PT Saka Energi, a subsidiary of PT Perusahaan Gas Negara Tbk (PGN), reportedly have joined the Medco-Pusri consortium.

Petromindo.com's industrial sources also said Talisman Energy has joined the race by forming a consortium in collaboration with Blue Sky Energy.

PT Energi Mega Persada Tbk, an affiliated company Bakrie Group, joined the race, which is still fresh from winning a bid to obtain participating interest in the Offshore North West Java (ONWJ) block from CNOOC.

Other bidders which are also interested in ExxonMobil assets are PT Intera Arun Energi, which is teaming up with PT Ratu Prabu Energi, as well as Triangle Energy.

Little known independent oil and gas company Mandiri Oil also reportedly have expressed interest in the ExxonMobil assets, however, it is not clear whether the company had submitted its bid.

Tender is expected to close at 10.00 a.m. Houston, US, today.

ExxonMobil is in the process of divesting its assets in Arun field, satellite fields A & D and Phase A & B in onshore Arun as well as North Sumatera Offshore field.
