Conergy, a global provider of solar power, had managed to develop the first big scale solar power plant (PLTS) with a generation capacity of one Megawatt (MW) in Sumba island, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), and connect it to the grid system.
The company stated in a press release on Thursday that the PLTS is its first big scale solar power plant in Indonesia. It was developed under a cooperation with PT. Buana Energi Surya Persada. The construction was started in September 2016 and finalized last month with a total investment of US$ 2.2 million (Rp 28 billion).
The solar power plant can supply power at more than 1,400 MWh per year and provide power for at least 11,600 households in Sumba Island. The company sells the power to PT. Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN) under a long term power purchase agreement (PPA).
?Sumba is one of areas in Indonesia which has a massive potential of solar power as it has an average solar exposure of 5 kWh/m/day and radiation at 1,000 watt/m for five hours per day. With the full support of Conergy, we?ve proven to the world that Indonesia has a very big potential of solar power. We can contribute to the efforts of improving the public welfare in the region,? said Rico Syah Alam, President Director and CEO of PT. Buana Energy Surya Persada.
Alexander Lenz, President Director of Conergy APAC said that beside increasing power supply, the solar power plant will also diversify the energy mix in Indonesia from the fossil fuels to the renewable energy sources, and help generate the economic development. ?We?re proud as this is also our contribution to realize the government?s power mega project of 35,000 MW in Indonesia,? he said.
