ConocoPhillips has deployed its floating production and storage and offloading (FPSO) facilities to start oil production at its Belanak field in South China Sea, Investor Daily Indonesia reported in its Monday edition.

The upstream oil and gas regulating authority BP Migas expects the FPSO, which will begin its operations in mid-November, to produce up to 60,000 barrels per day (bpd) during the first phase.

"Production will begin possibly on Nov. 12 or 15. Actually, the FPSO can produce 100 bpd, but it plans to produce 40,000-60,000 bpd in the first phase," BP Migas? operations deputy Trijana Kartoatmodjo said over the weekend in Jakarta.

According to Trijana, production from Belanak will support the national oil production target of 1.072 million bpd. Indonesia is currently producing 1.049 million (bpd).

Belanak is part of the Block B offshore Natuna Sea. (*)
