State owned electricity company PLN and its partners coal miner PT Bukit Asam and Malaysian electricity company Malaysia Tenaga Nasional Berhad will form a consortium to build and operate coal-fired power plant in Riau.
PLN?s President Director Nur Pamudji said that the consortium which would operate the mine-mouth power plant PLTU Indragiri was expected to be established in December. He said that the consortium would then establish three subsidiaries which would operate a coal mining firm to provide coal supply, the power plant and the power transmission, respectively.
According to Pamudji, PLTU Indragiri which would have a capacity of 2 x 600 megawatt would be built with total cost of about Rp 20 trillion. About a half of the electricity production will be exported to Malaysia.
He hoped that the construction of the power plant could begin next year so that it could start commercial operation in 2017. (*)
