Private power producer PT Cirebon Energi Prasarana (CEP) hopes that the PLTU Cirebon II coal-fired power plant project, with capacity of 1,000 MW, in Cirebon, West Java, will not be affected by a recent court ruling.

?So far, the project is proceeding as planned. We hope the (court) case will not hampered construction of the project,? said M. Arsjad Rasjid, President Director of IDX-listed energy company PT Indika Energy Tbk, to Petromindo.com on Thursday following company annual shareholders meeting.

Indika is part of a consortium called CEP, which is developing the power plant project, which is an expansion of the existing 1x660 MW coal-fired power plant in Cirebon. Other members of CEP are Marubeni Corporation, Samtan Co. Ltd, Korea Midland Power Co. Ltd, and Chubu Electric Power Co. Inc.

CEP President Director Heru Dewanto expressed similar view, pointing out that the project has strong legal basis. ?The West Java provincial government will file for appeal, hopefully the project can continue,? he said.

He added that financial close of the estimated US$2.1 billion power plant project, which has been targeted to be completed in 2020, is expected to be made in June of this year.

The State Administrative Court has recently issued a ruling suspending the environmental permit for the project because it has not conformed with the Cirebon Regency 2011-2013 Spatial Zoning Plan (or RUTR).

According to the RUTR the project area should only be limited within the Astanajapura District, but it turns out to also extend to Mundu District.

CEP has previously said that the local government has made decision to allow the project to span three districts.
