Global financial meltdown has forced state companies consortium to revise plan to build a 3MTPA LNG receiving terminal in West Java and would instead opt to build a much smaller one, a company official said on Monday.
Hendi Prio Santoso, CEO of state gas distribution company PGN told a parliamentary hearing in Jakarta that the consortium may build a mini terminal with capacity of 1.5MTPA, or a floating terminal with capacity of 1MTPA.
Hendi floating terminal would be cheaper and a more economically feasible as it can be easily moved from one place to another.
He said the consortium would meet on December 23 to decide on the matter.
Other than PGN, the consortium comprised of state electricity firm PLN and state oil, gas firm Pertamina.
The consortium thus far has secured 1.5 MTPA long-term LNG supply commitment from Mahakam PSC, East Kalimantan, which is operated by French giant Total SA.(godang)
