The Constitutional Court has started on Thursday the process for a judicial review of the Environmental Law No 32/2009, Media Indonesia reported.
The paper said that the judicial review was requested by Bachtiar Abdul Fatah, a senior executive at PT Chevron Pacific Indonesia, who was sentenced to two years jail term by the Jakarta Corrption Court in October of last year. Bachtiar, along with a number of CPI employees and contractors, were accused of being implicated in corruption related to the bioremediation project of CPI in Riau.
Lawyer Maqdir Ismail said that the judicial review was requested because the Environmental Law particularly chapters 59, 95 and 102 are seen in breach of the constitutional rights of his client. (*)
