Construction of a combined 10,000 MW power plant projects is expected to start this year in a bid to help realize the government ambitious program to develop 35,000 MW power plants through 2019.

Procurement Director at PLN, Supangkat Iwan Santoso was quoted by Bisnis Indonesia as saying Friday that the 10,000 MW power plant projects that would break ground this year are dominated by large-scale coal-fired power plant projects that would require longer time to complete.

He explained that of the 10,000 MW target, 2,920 MW are power plant projects to be developed by PLN whose EPC contracts had been signed last year. These include PLTU Java 7, PLTU Cilacap Expansion, and PLTU Cirebon Expansion.

?The remaining 7,080 are projects to be developed by independent power producers who have signed power purchase agreements with PLN,? he said.
