Construction of 20 power plants delayed

Thursday, April 10 2014 - 01:34 AM WIB

Construction of around 20 power plants in Java-Bali region will be delayed from the original schedule due to various problems particularly permitting and land acquisition, Investor Daily reported on Thursday.

The delay will result in power reserves in the Java-Bali region to only reach 60 percent of installed capacity by 2016-2017, less than the ideal 30 percent level.

The paper quoted PLN Director of Planning, Murtaqi Syamsuddin as saying that to help compensate for the delays, PLN will accelerate the development of peaker power plants in Grati (East Java) and in Muara Karang (West Java) as the construction of coal-fired power plants takes a much longer time.

The Grati 600 MW combined-cycle power plant is currently in the tender process, while tender document is currently being prepared for the combined-cycle Muara Karang power plant.

?We hope that by end of 2015, at least one will already be in operation at least for the open-cycle,? said Murtaqi. (*)
