Construction of Pare Pare oil refinery officially launched

PT Intan Jaya Agromega Abadi (IAA) officially launched on Friday the construction of its USS$5 billion oil refinery plant at the Bacukiki district in the regency of Pare Pare, South Sulawesi.

Top government officials including South Sulawesi Governor HM Amin Syam also took part in the ground breaking ceremony to mark the start of the construction of the refinery plant which would have a capacity to process 400,000 barrels of oil per day.

The president director of Intan Jaya, Mappasule said at the ceremony that the new refinery plant which would occupy a 1,000-hectare site, was expected to start commercial production in 2010.

He said that his company had signed a joint venture agreement with the Texas-based Inter Global Technologies to build and operate the refinery plant. "The refinery will produce kerosene and diesel fuel for both exports and domestic market," he added. (*)
