Construction of Parepare oil refinery will begin end of 2005

The construction of the US$3.5 billion oil refinery in Parepare, South Sulawesi will begin at the end of this year, the Bisnis Indonesia daily newspaper reported in its Monday edition.

Parepare mayor Zain Katoe said that the project is in the preparatory phase, which includes finalization of the analysis of environmental impact (Amdal) report and the mapping of the location.

"Three months ago, the research regarding Amdal report was completed.The mapping of the location and land acquisition will be done very soon. We hope this phase (preparatory) will be completed within six months at the most, " Zain said in Pare Pare over the weekend.

Zain said the construction of the project, which is owned by a joint venture between Texas-based American firm Inter Global Technologies and Indonesia firm Intanjaya, will begin at the end of this year.(*)
