After lengthy delays, the planned construction of a 50 MW wind power plant in the Samas beach area, Bantul Regency, Yogyakarta, is expected to start this year, Kompas reported on Saturday.
?According to the plan, ground breaking will be implemented this year,? said Edi Indrajaya, Head of the Energy Unit of the Public Works Office of the Yogyakarta provincial administration.
The US$150 million wind power plant project, which if realized will be the largest in the country, will be developed by China?s UPC Renewables Indonesia Ltd and its local partner PT Binatek Reka Energi, which will include the construction of 33 wind mills. Under a heads of agreement signed with PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara, the state utility will purchase the electricity produced by the wind power plant. (*)
