The LPKTI consumers grouping in East Kalimantan plans to sue the Samarinda office of the state oil and gas firm Pertamina to pay some Rp 1.4 billion in compensation for the shortage of kerosene and the surge in the price of the fuel product during the past week.

LPKTI executive Supriyana SH was quoted by the local Suara Kaltim daily as saying that the Pertamina Samarinda office was responsible for the shortage of Kerosene which had caused trouble to the local people.

Separately, Pertamina Samarinda office said that it would deliver kerosene directly to the local retailers, instead through its wholesale agents, as of today in a bid to resolve the shortage of the fuel products.

Mochamad Noor of Pertamina said that the new measure was a recommendation made by the local House of Representatives following its direct field investigation.

He also said that Pertamina had sent a letter to its wholesale agents to provide sanction to retailers which had set a higher price for the kerosene products. (*)
